The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer teases what fans can expect the movie to do with several Marvel Cinematic Universe characters and multiverse players. So far, the MCU’s Multiverse Saga has tapped into its title concept to bring back many fan-favorites, as well as some surprising returns and new castings. Those range from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men to Anson Mount’s Black Bolt and more.
Looking at Avengers: Doomsday’s cast, there is a clear reason to be excited. Besides the fact that Marvel’s next Avengers movie will bring back characters from all corners of the MCU, many of which have yet to meet or never appeared in an Avengers film before, Fox’s original X-Men are also coming back. Cyclops, Magneto, Professor X, and more will get their time to shine.
The first few Avengers: Doomsday teasers also confirmed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers will return to the MCU for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and set up an eerie atmosphere for Robert Downey Jr.’s debut as Doctor Doom. Due to that, fans can’t wait to see a full Avengers: Doomsday trailer, as the theatrically released teasers were short.
Well, Marvel has yet to reveal when the full Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be released online, though San Diego Comic-Con in July could time that release. Thankfully, the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer was screened at 2026’s CinemaCon, where ScreenRant was in attendance, and it revealed that some characters shine a bit more than others in the footage, such as:
10
Charles Xavier
Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier is one of the multiverse characters who have already appeared in the MCU after the end of Fox’s X-Men movies. However, the actor portrayed the Earth-838 version of Professor X, not the original, and saw his character be killed by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch alongside the rest of the Illuminati.
The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer begins with Charles looking absolutely frightened as he catches the glimpse of a major explosion or energy surge through the window. We see the X-Mansion in ruins. If a character as powerful as Professor X is afraid, what does that mean for the rest of the heroes?
9
Namor
Tenoch Huerta’s Namor made quite the splash in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where he was the main antagonist. In the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Namor can be seen flying around and stressed out. The character is also part of an intense meeting between the Talokans and the Wakandans.
Notably, the Avengers: Doomsday trailer showcases the Fantastic Four and the Wakandans interacting in a desert that was actually the ocean, with two huge walls of water on each side. Namor might have been the one making that possible. If not, what is happening to the ocean will surely concern him.
8
Cassie Lang
Cassie Lang emerges as one of the most important Avengers: Doomsday trailer characters because no one knew she was in the movie before she appeared in it. Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man can be seen kissing his daughter’s forehead in an emotional moment. It could be a goodbye before battle.
Kathryn Newton’s Cassie was teased as the next member of the superhero team Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan was putting together. That squad, which could go by Young Avengers or Champions in the MCU, is now more likely to appear in Avengers: Doomsday due to Cassie’s role in the trailer.
7
Mystique
Mystique is one of the original Fox X-Men who are confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. In the MCU movie trailer shown at CinemaCon, it was revealed that she will use her shape-shifting powers to impersonate at least Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova in the Marvel movie. This leads to two Yelenas fighting.
Mystique’s role in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer sets up the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline for the Marvel movie. Why would Mystique pretend to be Yelena and fight the Marvel hero? Perhaps there is an incursion between the characters’ Earths, and that is what it comes down to.
6
Yelena
Pugh’s Yelena, the other half of that exciting fight, is also one of the most important characters in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. That is not only related to her role in fighting Mystique, but also due to how Yelena pops up in several other moments of the footage.
At Avengers Tower, Yelena and the rest of the Thunderbolts, who are now the MCU’s New Avengers, meet with the Fantastic Four and Captain America’s Avengers team. Yelena should play a key role in the film as the main player of Marvel’s New Avengers after the events of Thunderbolts*.
5
Shang-Chi
Shang-Chi is involved in one of the most exciting fights in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. Much like the clash between Yelena and Mystique sets the stage for an Avengers vs X-Men showdown, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi takes on Channing Tatum’s Gambit in the footage. From the looks of it, they go all out.
Shang-Chi can be seen wielding the Ten Rings while fighting Gambit, now more experienced with the powerful artifacts. The fight also takes place inside the X-Mansion, confirming that at least some of the MCU’s Avengers will travel to the X-Men’s universe.
4
Gambit
The other half of that fight, Tatum’s Gambit, is also noteworthy. The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer holds something of a power boost for Gambit. After all, he is able to use his powers — Gambit can charge objects with kinetic energy and make them explode — to go toe-to-toe with Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings.
As shown in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the weapons the MCU hero uses are incredibly powerful. As such, the fact that Tatum’s Gambit is somewhat evenly matched with Shang-Chi is surprising. This is also Gambit’s first appearance after Deadpool & Wolverine, and the footage is worthwhile.
3
Thor
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is one of the three most important characters in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. He appears in several different moments in the footage, fighting, connecting with other heroes, and voicing a dark speech. Check out what Thor says in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer in full below:
“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were stronger than all of us put together, and they died, they died facing enemies that scared me far less than this one does. Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together. Aside from your petty squabbles, and resume nothing except this. If you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. Mark my words, we are going to need a miracle.”
Thor sets up Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom to be the scariest villain the God of Thunder has ever faced in the MCU. That is no small thing based on the characters Thor has fought in his solo movies and the Avengers films. Thor also fights Doctor Doom and reunites with Steve Rogers in the trailer.
2
Steve Rogers
Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is absent from the majority of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. However, he shows up at the very end. When Thor claims that they will need a miracle to defeat Doctor Doom, Steve pops up and calls Mjölnir back to him, revealing that he is the same Captain America from past MCU movies.
Not only is Steve Rogers back, but he is still worthy, and using Mjölnir will considerably boost his power levels when dealing with Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, the new footage makes it seem like the MCU’s former Captain America is the secret weapon the heroes need to stop Doom, making Steve incredibly important.
1
Doctor Doom
Finally, the most important character in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and the one fans have long been waiting to see, is Downey’s Doctor Doom. The CinemaCon trailer showed multiple shots of Doctor Doom in full costume, which looks comics-accurate with silver armor, a green cloak, and Victor von Doom’s face covered by his signature mask.
Doctor Doom fights Thor in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and this is where his power level is shown to be among the MCU’s highest. While Thor charges at him at full strength, Doctor Doom easily stops Stormbreaker with just one hand. This sets up the main villain in Avengers: Doomsday to be one of, if not the most frightening in the MCU, and hopefully the trailer will be released online soon.
