Fresh off a whirlwind year that has seen her emerge as one of the UK’s most talked-about new vocal talents, Sydnie Christmas returns with her new single, ‘Lean On You’, released today via Westway Music.
The uplifting pop track serves as the second taste of Christmas’ forthcoming second studio album and finds the singer-songwriter leaning into themes of trust, vulnerability, and emotional healing. Co-written with hitmakers Paul Meehan (One Direction, Little Mix) and Kjetil Morland (James Morrison, Rebecca Ferguson), ‘Lean On You’ blends warm, contemporary pop influences reminiscent of Olivia Dean and Sienna Spiro with Christmas’ signature powerhouse vocals.
At its core, the song is a celebration of finding a relationship built on genuine support – and learning to let someone in after years of carrying life’s burdens alone.
“‘Lean On You’ is a very personal song to me,” Sydnie says. “I wrote this song when my partner urged me to share the load of my stress. ‘A problem shared is a problem halved,’ he said.”
The singer explains that she has long been someone who tends to internalise pressure and push forward regardless of the challenges she’s facing. A conversation with her partner changed that perspective.
“One day, he said: ‘Babe, I am here to carry your hard times with you – lean on me,’” she recalls. “I was so taken aback with relief. I found myself in a supportive, loving relationship where I felt truly seen – something I had never experienced before.”
That realisation became the catalyst for the song.
“All of a sudden, all the broken hearts from my past were forgotten,” she explains further. “I’d found my home and just had to learn to settle there and lean on him. The next day, ‘Lean On You’ was written, and from that moment, the rest was history.”
Accompanying the single is a sun-soaked music video filmed in Ibiza, which premieres on YouTube at 6pm today. The visual captures the song’s feel-good spirit, celebrating love, connection, and the freedom that comes with finding someone you can depend on.
The release arrives amid a busy period for Christmas. Earlier this year, she performed during the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent alongside the Great Ormond Street Hospital Choir, and she recently announced a trio of summer U.S. dates in New York and Philadelphia as she continues to expand her international profile.
With ‘Lean On You’, Christmas offers a heartfelt reminder that strength isn’t always about carrying everything yourself – sometimes it’s about allowing someone else to help shoulder the weight.
