There’s an awful lot to love about Steam. The discounts are usually much bigger compared to the sales you might find on consoles, for one thing. Many of the more interesting indie games tend to come to Steam first. Oh, and there’s also a huge amount of free games available on Steam at all times.
There are so many free games on Steam that it can be hard to know where to start or what’s worth your time. Some games are free-to-play but have microtransactions, or hidden costs. Then there are demos designed to give you a taste of the full thing. Some games are completely free all the time with no strings attached, but a lot of these games are… not so good. Every now and again, however, a developer chooses to make their paid game 100 percent free for a limited time. And that’s why we’re here today.
Yes, you lucky thing, if you log onto Steam today, you’ll find the 2025 open-world survival game SurrounDead Poly Construction is completely free to download and keep until April 25. At the time of writing, that means you have 48 hours to add this game to your library before it goes back to its regular price of, um, $3.59. Okay, so it’s not at expensive game at full price, but you can get it for free and use that $3.59 you saved to get a nice coffee.
What is SurrounDead Poly Construction all about, I hear you cry? I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure. And I don’t think developer and publisher LivingEveryday is either.
“SurrounDead Poly Construction is an open-world survival adventure game where players will solve puzzles, collect items, and defeat all enemies to reach the end,” reads the game’s synopsis. Paints quite a picture, doesn’t it?
Going off the game’s trailer, it looks as though you wander around a construction site fighting undead pirates, which… sure.
At the time of writing, the game has had just a small handful of reviews since it released in 2025. I won’t lie to you, reader, they are not kind reviews.
A lot of the reviews accuse SurrounDead Poly Construction of being little more than an asset flip. That is to say, they believe the game was thrown together using various pre-made 3D models and templates purchased from an asset store. I couldn’t possibly say whether that’s true, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
If for some reason you have decided SurrounDead Poly Construction doesn’t quite butter your crumpet, there are some other limited-time Steam freebies available at the time of writing. An interactive historical fiction game called Aeonic is completely free until April 29. Meanwhile, Legends of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager and Sentience: The Android’s Tale are both free for just a few more hours, so grab those on Steam while you still can.
