Wet T-shirt contest? Not quite. Brittany Hall of Star Cat is behind The Wet Tank, the barely-there top spotted on Hilary Duff, Kim Kardashian, Tate McRae, SZA, Doja Cat, Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, and Carrie Underwood.

While the classic pink, black, or white ribbed tanks look like they’ve been drenched in water (with black or white lace bras peeking through), there’s no towel required here.

“The Wet Tank has been a concept on my work desk for so long. … Starting from a very young age, I noticed the powerful energy that fashion and costumes could give to someone. I would get lost in the detailing of that energy and I understood that I too wanted to play and explore fashion and how it could align with what I was feeling inside,” she tells ET.

Whether the vibe is moody, sexy, sensual, chic, or edgy, the statement-making shirt is designed to make a splash.

“An element to my work is very playful and a bit avant garde. … The Wet Tank seemed so cheeky and trippy to me, I had to explore what it would look like in real life,” she adds.

Turning the illusion into reality starts close to home, with each one custom-made in Los Angeles, California.

“I love my city. We have been through a lot, and the communities here are resilient. … I always want my environment to reflect the quality of my work and L.A. is home and certainly made of quality,” the founder notes.

Once your order is in, expect to wait a little over a week before slipping into the celeb-loved creation.

But if you’re wondering what it’s like to wear something that looks like it’s soaking wet: “They feel a bit like jelly. They are soft, flexible, and form to the body. They are a bit more breathable than latex but have a similar feel. They are comfortable and supportive, for sure,” Hall explains.

As for styling? There’s plenty of room to make it your own.

“People dress them up and make the top more elevated by wearing it with silks and accessories, or they’ll be casual for different events and festivals. I want people to choose their own adventure.”

That sense of individuality carries through all of Hall’s work, including one-of-a-kind looks for Tyla, Sabrina Carpenter, Tinashe, and Shakira.

“There has been such a large range of different people that have enjoyed and resonated with Star Cat, which has honestly been one of the loveliest parts of this journey. … I think it connects with other creative types and artists because it is a bit different and fun.”

Now, she’s giving fans even more ways to wear her line with the Tortured Gardens collection featuring dresses, handbags, and brooches.

“I’m really enjoying the mixed textures and colors together. The layered shiny satin and distressed silk lace has been so fun and romantic to explore. … It was time to challenge myself and let new creative ideas process and flow.”

While natural elements remain rooted in her creative process, the designer is diving even deeper.

“I’ve been exploring concepts that are aligned with water, earth, and air, but also the life cycles of birth, rebirth, and afterlife. … This collection feels a bit more elevated with new fabrics and techniques.”
