Fans diving into Spider-Noir on Prime Video may be surprised to learn that one of the show’s most dangerous characters never made it to the screen.
According to showrunner Oren Uziel, an incredibly powerful figure named Sticks was originally part of the plan for Season 1, but the creative team ultimately decided he was a little too much for the story they were telling.
The new series, which stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, has already sparked plenty of conversation about where the noir-inspired Spider-Man story could go next. While Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced, Uziel is already thinking about ideas that could be explored if the show gets another chapter.
Speaking with /Film, Uziel revealed that Sticks was one of his favorite concepts that never made the final cut.
“There’s a character … shoot, I’m hoping I’m going to remember his name, called Sticks, I believe, I loved it for ‘Noir,’ and maybe I’ll use it in Season 2 if we do one.”
What made the character so intimidating was the simplicity of his power. Uziel explained that “when he touches you, you die. And I love that idea.”
That ability would’ve made Sticks a terrifying presence in the world of Spider-Noir. The original storyline would have seen him accidentally kill his boss with a touch before becoming the leader of a workers’ rights revolution. It’s a big concept that feels perfectly suited for the series’ dark, pulp-inspired setting.
The problem, according to Uziel, was that Sticks threatened to overshadow everyone else. The character’s powers made him difficult to balance against the rest of the villains, which eventually led to the storyline being shelved. Even so, Uziel hasn’t completely abandoned the idea.
“It was cool, but it was just kind of its own story. And also I think, it’s kind of a pain in the ass, as a guy who can just touch people and you die. I’m not sure how to … that might be a challenge for the next season.”
That’s an understandable concern. A villain who can eliminate someone with a single touch creates all kinds of storytelling headaches, especially in a detective-driven series where tension often comes from uncertainty and investigation rather than overwhelming power.
Still, the fact that Uziel specifically mentioned possibly revisiting Sticks suggests the character remains on the creative team’s radar if Spider-Noir returns.
As for what a second season could look like, Uziel recently offered a simple but effective pitch for continuing Ben Reilly’s adventures. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he explained:
“One of the magical things about any private detective story is, if you want another story, all it takes is another client to knock on that door, and then comes a new set of cases, a new set of problems.”
That’s one of the strengths of the noir detective format. The world can keep expanding with every new mystery, every strange client, and every dangerous figure lurking in the shadows.
If Season 2 happens, Sticks sounds like exactly the kind of threat that could make Ben Reilly’s next case his most dangerous one yet.
