Serato has updated its software to version 4.0.6, adding official support for three Pioneer DJ mixers: the DJM-250MK2, DJM-450, and DJM-750MK2. All three are now fully mapped by Serato, giving DJs plug-and-play access to Serato’s full feature set – including DVS – through hardware that was previously locked to the Rekordbox ecosystem.
It’s worth noting that these are not new mixers. All three launched back in 2017. The DJM-250MK2 is a two-channel mixer aimed at newer DJs, the DJM-450 is a more feature-rich two-channel model with hardware effects, and the DJM-750MK2 is a four-channel mixer that borrows heavily from the “club-standard” DJM-900NXS2. They’re well-established, widely owned units.
This follows the same playbook Serato has been running for several updates now. Version 3.2.1 added support for the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3, S3, and Pioneer DDJ-200 and DDJ-400. Then version 3.3.2 brought in the Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol Z2 and Pioneer DJ DDJ-RB. Now 4.0.6 picks up three more Pioneer DJ mixers that were never designed with Serato in mind.
Serato appears to be systematically opening its doors to hardware that DJs already own, regardless of which software ecosystem that gear was originally sold into. For DJs who’ve had a DJM-450 or DJM-750MK2 sitting in their setup and wished they could run Serato through it, the wait is over.
What you actually get
With the update installed, the three mixers work with Serato DJ Pro out of the box for basic mixing – in other words, their built-in audio interfaces ‘unlock’ Serato. To access DVS and the full suite of Serato’s performance tools and expansion packs, you’ll need Serato DJ Suite, which is a paid upgrade. That’s not unusual – it’s the same deal for most Serato-compatible hardware that doesn’t ship with a bundled licence.
For DJM-750MK2 owners specifically, four-channel mode is supported, along with the mixer’s full hardware effects section. The DJM-250MK2 and DJM-450 both get their channel filters and effects working within the Serato environment too.
Our Thoughts
Serato is doing something strategically smart here – removing one of the last barriers for DJs who prefer Serato’s workflow but happen to own Pioneer DJ hardware. Given how many of these mixers are out there (especially the DJM-450 and DJM-750MK2, which remain popular in home setups and warm-up rooms), the potential reach is significant.
