Netflix will start streaming The Last House starting August 7. The film stars Oscar nominee Wagner Moura and Greta Lee as part of a family that wakes up to a terrifying surprise. They’re trapped inside their own home with no way to escape. As food and other supplies slowly run out, they have to figure out what’s holding them there before it’s too late.
Director Louis Leterrier tells TUDUM that the story flips the idea of home as a safe place, turning an ordinary family’s nightmare into a desperate fight to survive.
For Wagner Moura, the movie’s strange setup was hard to ignore. He said the thought of waking up trapped inside your own home with no clue why is genuinely terrifying. It also made him wonder how his “own family would respond in that situation.” That personal connection helped him step into the role.
Greta Lee was sold for a different reason. She said she’s always been drawn to survival stories, especially those with unexpected twists. Lee added that the film raises bigger questions about the world while delivering an entertaining thriller.
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura star as Ann and Jason, the parents trying to hold their family together as everything starts to go wrong. Lee says Ann is the kind of person who refuses to give up, calling her “a rock” whose biggest strength is protecting the people she loves. She compared that determination to the incredible strength people sometimes discover in life-or-death situations.
Meanwhile, Moura describes Jason as a dad who has to stay level-headed while the world around him falls apart and somehow keep his family safe. He also teased that viewers should expect “layers and twists” they will not see coming. The cast also features Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa.
