Folks who have already binged the first season of Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reimagining, do not worry, for Season 2 is on the way.
Renewed very early before Season 1 launched July 9, Season 2 has been in production this summer on top of the cast and creatives doing press for the first installment. New cast have also been added with some highly anticipated characters waiting in the wings.

Yes, the show went into production this summer, with showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and stars Crosby Fitzgerald taking a quick break to fly to Bentonville, Arkansas for a panel moderated by Deadline during the 2026 Bentonville Film Festival.

What will Little House on the Prairie Season 2 be about?
Season 2 will follow the events of On the Banks of Plum Creek, the fourth book Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote, published in 1937. The Newberry Honor Award-winning book follows the Ingalls family as they move to Minnesota for yet another fresh start at a new home.
Will there be new characters in Season 2 of Little House on the Prairie?
Yes, Laura’s nemesis, Nellie Oleson, has been cast. Deadline broke the news that Willa Dunn (Only Murders in the Building) has been cast as the antagonistic character for Season 2.
For those that have not read the books, Nellie is described as “a world-class spoiled princess and a playground bully. Smart and supremely confident, sharp-tongued but easily wounded.”

“She lives and breathes to make Laura Ingalls (Halsey) miserable. But beneath her mean-girl persona is tenderness and a yearning for true friendship — even if she doesn’t know exactly how to get it,” Netflix’s synopsis adds.
Sonnenshine hinted at a very pivotal candy scene involving Nellie that was shot for Season 2 when we spoke with her at the Bentonville Film Festival 2026 in June.
Deadline also broke the news that Charlotte Sullivan will portray Nellie’s mother Margaret Oleson, and that Rachelle Lefevre will portray Eva Beadle, the two schoolteacher that the Ingalls girls take to quite swiftly.
Who of the cast will be back for Season 2 of Little House on the Prairie?
Alice Halsey plays Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracy plays Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls and Skywalker Hughes plays Mary Ingalls. Warren Christie seemingly will return as John Edwards.
“He appears later. He comes back in and out of their lives in the books, and I really felt like we should just make him a presence in the series overall because he’s such a fun character, he has so much sort of like things to explore about the world that we want to explore,” Sonnenshine told Deadline. “Running from your past, the Civil War and what it did to people, and how they felt about it, and the lessons they took from it. He’s a great character who has lived through a lot, who comes from a different part of the country, and yet everybody’s on equal footing out here in Independence, Kansas.”

Season 1 characters who may not return include Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann, Barrett Doss as Emily HendersonWren Zhawenim Gotts as Good Eagle, Meegwun Fairbrother as Mitchell, and Alyssa Wapanatahk as White Sun. Good Eagle and Laura promised to write letters to each other in the finale, so they could stay connected that way.

Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, Vampire Diaries) is serving as showrunner and exec producing alongside Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, and Dana Fox.
