Series stars Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, Mary Jo Pehl, Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu all are returning.
This is of particular note because Mike and the other original voice cast have been doing “Riff Trax” for all these years (think MST3K, but without the fun visual theatrics of their characters and intermission segments. Just audio tracks riffing over movies). This is the first time since the end of the original series they are returning as their characters.
This isn’t to be confused with the 2017 revival of the series by original creator Joel Hodgson for Netflix, which was fronted by a new host (Jonah Ray) and new talent for the bots and villains. That run lasted only 2 seasons.
But, there’s more!This is actually the first of several new episodes they are working on, after a successful crowdfunding campaign for the project occurred earlier this year (not too dissimilar from the Joel Hodgson revival).
This is neat! I didn’t really care for the reboot a few years ago. Jonah was a great choice for a new host stuck in space, but I found the new robot voices jarring, and I felt they tried to cram too much riffing in the movie segments.The only episode i thoroughly enjoyed was the “Mac and Me”, which I never even heard about prior to this! If you ever watch the movie, you’ll want to see the MST3K version!
