We’ve officially reached the final phase of television’s MCU (Mindy Comedic Universe), according to Mindy Kaling.
The 6x Emmy nominee recently explained that her new Hulu series Not Suitable for Work, two new episodes of which are available to stream on Tuesdays, is the final installment in a TV trilogy “loosely based” on her life.
“I think of Not Suitable for Work as the last show in this trilogy of shows that I’ve done about young people,” explained Kaling on Today. “Never Have I Ever was a show loosely based on my childhood and the loss of a parent. Sex Lives with College Girls was very loosely based on my time at Dartmouth.”
Starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Never Have I Ever ran for four seasons on Netflix from 2020 to 2023, about a first-generation Indian-American teenage girl trying to fit in at school following a traumatic year for her family.
In Sex Lives of College Girls, which had three seasons on HBO Max from 2021 to 2025, Amrit Kaur plays aspiring comedy writer Bela, exploring her newfound freedom with her Essex Colleger roommates, played by Reneé Rapp, Pauline Chalamet and Alyah Chanelle Scott.

Kaling explained that show was less autobiographical. “Not that much sex happening there,” she recalled of yer college years.
Not Suitable for Work takes inspiration from her “ambitious” early 20s in New York City. “I just wanted to hurry up to the time in my life when I was successful,” said Kaling.
The Hulu series stars Avantika Vandanapu, Ella Hunt, Jack Martin, Nicholas Duvernay and Will Angus as a group of 20-somethings living across the hall from each other in New York City, where they strive to make it big in their respective fields.
Kaling noted that she didn’t intend on the shows to form a trilogy. “That’s just the pretentious way that I like to frame my career now,” she joked.
