This is one of those moments that just hits differently, because when love and loss collide, there’s no easy way to navigate things.
Now, a year and a half after the devastating and all-too-early passing of One Direction superstar Liam Payne, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy is opening up about a deeply personal turning point: she’s ready to date again.

In a new social media video shared with her millions of followers on both Instagram and TikTok over the weekend, Kate revealed that she feels ready to begin dating. Yes, really. And before anyone jumps to conclusions, slow down: this wasn’t said lightly, and it certainly wasn’t said without reflection.
Of course, the 27-year-old has spent the past year and a half publicly and privately grieving Liam, who tragically died at just 31 years old after a fatal fall in Buenos Aires back in October of 2024.
But as with everything in life, there comes a time where one must move on. Speaking directly to her audience, Kate acknowledged the uncertainty of what comes next:
“I think that love after loss is a big chapter within your grief journey and I don’t know how that’s gonna feel. But what I do know is that I loved being in love. I want to have kids one day. I want to have a family, and I know Liam would want that for me, and if the roles were reversed I would want him to be happy and fall in love again.”
Wow. That right there says everything. It’s not about replacing Liam. It never could be!!! It’s about honoring what they had while still giving herself permission to live a full life. And of course, she’s not pretending to have it all figured out. But she is allowing herself to look forward, which, in itself, is a massive step.
Kate made it crystal clear that her love for Liam isn’t going anywhere, no matter what her future holds:
“That will never change, no matter who I meet and who comes into my life. I am probably going to — not even probably, I’m going to think about Liam on my wedding day. I’m going to think about him every day for the rest of my life, and that goes without saying.”
TBH, that’s what makes this so real. There’s no clean break from grief, no final chapter where everything is neatly resolved. For Kate, Liam remains part of her story forever.
