Lauren Sierra has left CBS 4 and NBC 23 after less than a year. She is now stepping away from television news and revealed that she plans to pursue a different career path. She is returning to school after five years in journalism.

Lauren Sierra announced her final day was August 7. She shared the news through posts on Facebook and Instagram. Sierra thanked the journalists she worked with in the Rio Grande Valley.
In her Facebook post, she wrote, “Today was my last day at CBS 4/NBC 23. I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to report and anchor in the Rio Grande Valley. I worked with incredible journalists and I wish them all the best as I move on to an endeavor outside the news industry.”
Sierra also reflected on her journalism journey through another post on Instagram. She wrote, “5 years in, around, out, back to, and now out of journalism. Younger me would be so happy to know I accomplished a dream. Future me is so proud that I accepted that dreams change.”
Sierra joined the stations in late December 2025. She returned home to work as a field reporter. Before that, she worked at KTXS News in Abilene. She previously worked as a reporter, producer, and weekend anchor.
Her journalism career also took her to Washington, D.C. She worked as press secretary for U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro. She also spent a year reporting in the Texas Panhandle and worked in CBS News’ corporate offices in New York.
Now, Sierra is preparing for another major career change. She told MySA that she plans to attend law school. ValleyCentral has seen several staff changes recently. Rudy Mireles and Derick Garcia both announced their departures. Blake Holland also left the sports desk, and Noah Gulley later joined the station from Miami.
Sierra’s exit now adds another major departure. However, she is leaving television news for school. Her next chapter will take her toward law.
