The finale of Peacemaker season 2 left a lot of threads dangling in the DC Universe. How will Peacemaker get out of Salvation? What’s Lex Luthor’s plan for the prison? How does Checkmate play into any of this? And with it likely being just under two years until James Gunn’s next project in the franchise, it’s likely that fans will have to wait quite a while for concrete answers.
However, the director did give DC Universe fans a bit of an inkling about how the events of the finale may play into future projects. When speaking about how Peacemaker season 2 plays into Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn admits that all of the threads teased in the episode will play into the future of the franchise and his next feature film.
“Where Chris is at the end, what’s happening between the government and the metahumans, Rick and Lex’s new partnership, and all their decisions… it’s all part of the future, MOT, and more.”
Peacemaker’s Role In Man Of Tomorrow
Obviously, that quote from James Gunn didn’t reveal too much about how or if the Peacemaker finale directly plays into Man of Tomorrow. However, the specific elements from season 2 that he mentioned may give fans a hint about what will be important going into the future. Namely, that the war between the government and metahumans may play a pivotal role in the DC Universe.
Given Man of Tomorrow is set to feature Lex Luthor in a protagonist role, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Rick Flag Sr. potentially abandon their partnership that was established in Peacemaker season 2 in order to go harder on the metahuman threat. After all, if someone like Peacemaker can be considered a threat, the smartest man alive is likely next on the docket!
