Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially available to play, revamping the original Halo: CE experience in modern graphics and with completely overhauled gameplay. While much of the game will feel familiar for longtime Halo players, there are quite a few new gameplay features and mechanics included.

One such example is the introduction of flight for Master Chief. Yes, that’s right, Master Chief has wings now, and we’re not talking about flying around in a ship or anything like that—this is a bona fide new mechanic that can only be unlocked by tracking down a specific Skull.

Alongside features such as a third-person camera option and unlimited ammo and grenades, Halo: Campaign Evolved has also introduced the ability to fly around any map freely, which is not only really awesome but also comes in quite handy when it comes to collecting Skulls that would otherwise only be accessible with tricks such as grenade jumping.

To unlock flight for Master Chief, you’ll need to find the Acrophobia Skull on The Silent Cartographer mission. The Skull can be found in a somewhat tricky location in the middle of the map after reaching Rally Point Bravo. You’ll be tasked with reaching a structure close to the middle of the island that’s surrounded by enemies.

After taking out the enemies, you’ll need to jump to the very top of the structure, where you’ll find the Acrophobia Skull sitting on the platform under some leaves.

How Flying Works In Halo: Campaign Evolved

To actually fly in Halo: Campaign Evolved, you’ll need to activate the Acrophobia Skull before starting a mission. Doing so allows Master Chief to fly by “double jumping,” or jumping into the air and then hitting jump again, which will launch you in whatever direction you’re facing. Be forewarned that you can easily die while flying if you go too fast, as fall mechanics still function the same way and speeding toward certain ledges will automatically kill you as well.

That said, the ability to fly comes in quite handy when it comes to collecting Skulls, especially for hard-to-reach Skulls on maps such as Halo that would otherwise require a well-timed grenade jump. It’s also worth noting that flying in Halo: Campaign Evolved also limits your ability to unlock certain trophies, so it may not always be the best idea to enable Acrophobia if you’re trophy hunting.
