Doctor Doom is getting a brand new origin for the MCU! This Avengers: Doomsday rumor suggests the villain may be going through some major changes.
One of the biggest worries that fans have going into Avengers: Doomsday is how it will adapt Doctor Doom into the MCU. The character is currently 0/2 when it comes to good live-action adaptations. And especially given how complicated and vast the character’s origin is, many fear that the franchise may water him down into just another Avengers villain.
Sadly, it seems those fears weren’t exactly misplaced. A rumor from MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Doctor Doom’s origin will be getting an overhaul in Avengers: Doomsday. Now, instead of focusing on the loss of his mother and his hubris backfiring on him, the villain will have a much more standard backstory with his wife and son having been killed in “some kind of accident” seemingly caused by Steve Rogers.
What Doctor Doom’s Origin Means For The MCU
There’s some good news and some bad news when it comes to what this rumor may mean for the MCU going forward. The bad news is, it seems as though the version of Doctor Doom fans will see in Avengers: Doomsday will once more be nothing like he was in the comics, his origin simply being a vehicle to drive the story forward than an attempt to reinvigorate such an iconic character.
On the upside, there is a chance this means the Doctor Doom seen in Avengers: Doomsday won’t be the main version of Doctor Doom in the MCU. With this rumor tying his origin so closely to the Avengers, it wouldn’t be shocking if this is simply one incarnation of the villain, with the true Victor Von Doom lying in wait for a future installment.
