DJ Premier has teamed up with rising rapper Samara Cyn to create a fresh version of A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Can I Kick It?” for Major League Soccer’s new “Thanks World, We’ll Take It From Here” campaign.
The track, released as an Amazon Music Original, gives the iconic song a faster, modern feel while preserving the spirit of the 1990 original.

Premier said it was an honor to revisit such a timeless record and revealed that he personally spoke with Q-Tip before taking on the project, acknowledging that the original is already a masterpiece.
Samara Cyn brings new vocals and lyrics, introducing the song to a new generation of listeners.

The campaign is designed to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup and encourage fans to keep following soccer by supporting MLS.
Alongside the new version of “Can I Kick It?”, the campaign features stars such as Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Magic Johnson, Kevin Durant, and Son Heung-min.

For the full interview with DJ Premier, including his thoughts on reworking the iconic A Tribe Called Quest classic and collaborating with Samara Cyn, be sure to read the complete feature on Billboard.
