Colman Domingo didn’t hold back while reacting to Elon Musk’s plan to make an AI version of The Odyssey. Filling in as host on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Domingo went straight for the jokes and roasted Musk’s upcoming project.
While kicking off the show, Domingo took aim at Musk’s big idea of creating a “historically accurate” AI adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. Musk recently announced that his AI startup, Grok Imagine, will produce a full-length adaptation of the ancient Greek epic by the end of 2026. He criticized Christopher Nolan’s version for its diverse casting.
Domingo delivered one of the night’s biggest laughs. He said, “By historically accurate, he (Musk) means whiter than Christmas at Cracker Barrel.”
He then questioned the use of the phrase “historically accurate” to describe a mythical story. He added, “Of course, this is all because Elon and his Musketeers are upset over the diversity casting of The Odyssey. And I don’t want to get technical here, but you can’t make a historically accurate version of something that is totally made the f**k up!”
Domingo also reminded the audience that The Odyssey is a work of ancient Greek mythology and fiction. “The Odyssey is fiction. You know, like The Hunger Games or the president’s cognitive exams.”
He concluded the segment with yet another joke, this time about Musk himself. Domingo said, “C’mon, doesn’t Elon Musk have better things to do? Wasn’t this bitch supposed to be on Mars by now?”
Musk announced his plan to develop the AI project right after the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which turned into a box office hit. He said the film would be created using his AI image and video generator, Grok Imagine. Musk also said it is expected to arrive before the end of 2026, though no specific release date has been announced.
