[Cliffhanger] (1993) Sarah’s Absolutely Terrifying Death Scene [Directed by Renny Harlin]

Gabe (Stallone) and Hal (Rooker) are part of a mountain rescue team. When Hal injured his knee while climbing with his inexperienced girlfriend, Gabe has to come and help get them back to safety. But tragedy strikes when some equipment fails, sending Sarah plummeting to her death in one of the most viscerally terrifying scenes from 90s cinema (famously parodied in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls).

And this is how the movie OPENS. From here it quickly shifts gear into a more traditional action heist film, where Jonathan Lithgow plays a criminal mastermind who chews every scene. Cliffhanger is an underrated gem of an 90s action film in a unique environment (the mountains of Colorado). It's one that never fails to entertain me no matter how many times I see it.
