Andrew Garfield had a truly cursed run as Spider-Man. While The Amazing Spider-Man got the franchise off to a solid, albeit rocky, start- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is widely considered as one of the worst comic book films of all time. This is in no small part due to bloat by the studio trying to expand the film beyond its means. That, combined with the MCU growing in popularity, led to The Amazing Spider-Man 3 being canned and Garfield recast as Spider-Man.
Yet in recent years, Andrew Garfield has had a bit of a renaissance. Not only did a brand new generation of fans fall in love with his performance as the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he’s a bigger star than ever before with a number of hit projects under his belt. This has left some fans wondering if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 may finally be back in discussion.
Is The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Happening?
Speculation about The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has gotten so popular that interviewers have begun asking Andrew Garfield if there’s any plans for him to return to the franchise. This has been going on for years, with the actor always being at least a little optimistic for his future. However, it now seems that he has entirely let go of the idea of a sequel coming to light.
“It’s not happening and I don’t believe it ever will,” Garfield explained in a recent interview with GQ. “But sweet of you to want it to happen.”
Of course, given the current state of Sony Pictures and their ideas for the Spider-Man IP, it was never likely that Andrew Garfield made his return for a new solo movie. However, given how much demand there is for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, it certainly wouldn’t be shocking for him to appear in crossovers sometime soon.
