Adele makes her acting debut in Cry to Heaven
The Hello singer has made her acting debut alongside Colin Firth, Nicholas Hoult, Thandiwe Newton, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Tom Ford’s upcoming film Cry To Heaven and she was grateful to have the Oscar-winning actress on hand to be her “guru” before shooting her scenes earlier this year.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Jennifer spent time with Adele at her Los Angeles home last year and offered her support and encouragement about starring in the movie.
A source said: “Adele and Jennifer have been close for many years.
“Adele was a great support for Jennifer as she dealt with pregnancy and motherhood while balancing her career, so it was natural that Jennifer was happy to offer some love back.
“Adele has spent most of the last decade turning down the chance of film and TV gigs.
“She was always worried about acting not being her craft and that she would freeze on set.
“Effectively, she has one of the best actresses in the business as her guru.”
Jennifer – who has four-year-old Cy and a 12-month-old second son whose name hasn’t been made public with husband Cooke Maroney – previously expressed her regret at not taking advice from Adele.
The music superstar had advised Jennifer not to accept a role in 2016’s Passengers, which was a box office success but panned by critics.
She told the New York Times newspaper: “I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’ [I regret] ‘Passengers’ I guess. Adele told me not to do it! She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her!”
The pair have been friends since 2013 when they first met at the Oscars, when Adele, 38, won for her song Skyfall while Jennifer picked up an Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.
Jennifer previously wrote in a piece for Time magazine which celebrated her friend: “I remember sneaking backstage while she performed Skyfall, trying to squeeze a ball gown past a pile of ropes and cables just to get a little closer. See her from another angle as if to peek behind the Great Oz’s curtain.
“I had been a fan of hers since Chasing Pavements (saying ‘fan’ about Adele always sounds like an understatement, doesn’t it).”
