Does the MCU have the perfect cast for the X-Men reboot? James McAvoy and Elliot Page give their thoughts on recent rumors about the franchise.
Perhaps the most popular topic to discuss when it comes to the MCU these days is who will be cast in the X-Men reboot. Rumors have been flowing hot and heavy for years about any number of actors playing key mutants in the franchise. Some notable examples include Jesse Plemmons as Beast and Bella Ramsey as Kitty Pryde.
It was actually that second rumor that got some airtime this past weekend at New York Comic-Con. The convention featured an X-Men reunion panel with stars from the Fox era of films. Namely, James McAvoy and Elliot Page. When the topic of rumors about the upcoming reboot was broached by the moderator, Page remarked that there’s a lot of buzz out there about who could be playing the new X-Men. And while he doesn’t follow the rumors close, he is excited to see a new version of the team on the silver screen.
“I mean, yes, absolutely. I don’t really follow [the casting rumors], but they sound fantastic. I mean, it’d be just so exciting to see people do a take on a new iteration [of X-Men].”
James McAvoy Speaks On The X-Men Reboot
Following Elliot Page, James McAvoy also gave his thoughts on the many rumors flooding the internet about the X-Men reboot for the MCU. He got much more direct in his praise than his co-stars, calling out Colman Domingo by name as a potential successor for the role of Professor X.
“Look, I’m excited to see what happens next. I was a fan before I was an employee and I’ll be a fan again! You want it to be…I just can’t wait for it to be…Oh no, that was going to sound bad. It’s going to put a lot of pressure on people. Colman Domingo sounds amazing, though!”
Of course, it’s likely that neither Elliot Page nor James McAvoy know if these rumors are true or not. Though, given they’re now outside of the MCU’s grand machine, it makes sense that they would be excited to express their support for the new crop of X-Men actors for when the reboot finally gets off the ground.
