As predicted, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cleaned up at the 2025 Game Awards. The winners, chosen by popular vote, were announced on December 11, 2025, in a show that dropped a lot of industry news, announced anticipated games, and solved the mystery of that weird statue in the Mojave Desert that show host Geoff Keighley has been teasing.
Clair Obscur was the big story of the night. The game won nine awards, setting a record for the most won by a single game in one year. It was Game of the Year on top of eight other “bests”: Best Indie Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Art Direction, Best Score, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Roleplaying Game, and Best Performance for voice actress Jennifer English as Maelle. Best Art Direction refers to its stunning graphics, and Best Narration indicates the game had a pretty good story.

The previous record was held by The Last of Us 2, which won seven awards in 2020. That franchise also won this year in the Adaptations category for the HBO show’s second season.
Clair Obscur also holds the distinction of being the only game that won more than one award this year. For all the others, it seems as though the best way to win was to not be in the same category as the powerhouse indie game. Only Battlefield 6 managed to beat it in any technical category, in this case Best Audio Design. Hades II won Best Action Game and Hollow Knight: Silksong won Best Adventure Game.
Big Trailers For Big Games Include Tomb Raider, Star Wars, And LEGO Batman
The other big news of the night came in the form of trailers and reveals for upcoming video games. Several established franchises have new games being released in the upcoming year, including Tomb Raider, Star Wars, and LEGO Batman. The Resident Evil franchise thrilled fans by announcing that fan favorite Leon Kennedy will be returning in the next game.
Divinity stole the show for upcoming releases, however, with a marketing campaign that has had people asking questions for weeks. Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has been posting pictures of a sinister statue with a single glowing red eye set in an eldritch horror of a body that was “found” in the Mojave Desert. Fans incorrectly guessed it was a promotion for Blizzard’s Diablo franchise, but the Game Awards solved the mystery by introducing the brutal Divinity trailer to the gaming world.
Nominees for the Game Awards are chosen by industry insiders from various development studios, including Blizzard, EA Games, and Ubisoft, but the winners are chosen by fan vote. The fans have spoken this year and chosen indie gaming with a good story and great graphics as the best of the best.
The Game Awards aired online on December 11, but fans who missed it can watch it a replay of the live stream below.
