Season 2 of The Studio is without one of their beloved stars, Catherine O’Hara, who played Patty Leigh. She is an essential part of the show, so a question fans have on their minds: How will they push forward without her?
As you know, the iconic actress died at 71 from a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying cause, at the end of January. She was supposed to begin filming the award-winning show a week before her death, but she missed her first few scenes due to “personal matters.” What no one expected was that she’d be gone soon afterward. No one reportedly even knew she had “any health or major issues,” so they were stunned by the news of her passing.

The team also wrote a whole season with expecting for the Emmy winner to be it, but things sadly changed. So what are they doing? Seth Rogen, who created and stars in the Apple TV+ series, told The Times of London on Friday that they are “acknowledging” Catherine’s death:
“If anything, we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless. But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it.”
We’re glad to hear that they aren’t sweeping this tragedy under the rug. His co-creator, Evan Goldberg, further expressed how it has been an “unbelievable challenge” to continue filming without Catherine:
“Obviously emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also when it comes to the show itself. We wrote it for her to be there. We had it all set and the shock waves permeate throughout the entire new season. It’s been difficult. You worded it better than we could — she was the anchor and now the anchor is gone.”
It’s incredibly heartbreaking! She’s an irreplaceable talent! And looking back on their first season together, Seth shared that they “just wanted her to think we were funny” at the end of the day.
