That’s what fans have been wanting to know! Ari had to walk the red carpet alone Sunday night, partially being escorted by her good pal Doug Middlebrook. With the recent rumors about trouble in paradise between her and Ethan, and also the way they’ve gotten less shy about keeping their relationship under wraps, it seemed like they’d just go ahead and go to the award show together! But nope — and it’s got everyone wondering where they really stand.

According to an insider for DailyMail.com on Tuesday, it’s nothing to worry about, because the pair are reportedly finally “in a solid place” following months of tension. The source explained that Wicked really put a wedge between them:
“Ariana put Ethan on the back burner while she was promoting the movie. But they’re in a solid place now. They’re like an old married couple at home. They’d rather hang out together and do simple things like play board games or binge watch shows rather than go out to fancy places.”
That sounds so chill! Guess he didn’t want to get dressed up and hit the red carpet with her!
And before anyone thinks that this had anything to do with Ari’s close friendship with Cynthia, the insider quickly added:
“Ethan knew the Ariana and Cynthia thing was all about marketing the movie. Ariana needed to be front and center with Cynthia. The two of them were everywhere and Ethan was nowhere to be seen. Although he’s in the movie, he’s not a selling tool like Ariana and Cynthia. He’s a pro and understands the business. That’s why he was okay with it.”
Sounds like they’re just keeping their romance private for now. Maybe he also doesn’t want to steal her moment in the spotlight by stepping out with her and making everything about them? That would be understandable!
