This weekend was topped by new releases, as 20th Century’s Send Help won out with a $20 million take. The Sam Raimi film had a B+ Cinemascore and an international take of $8 million.
In second place was Iron Lung, an independent horror release from Youtuber Markiplier, which made $18 million on a reported $3 million budget. This weekend’s haul makes the film a big success even if it doesn’t have legs in future weekends.
Melania, the documentary about the woman married to the criminal currently running the United States, overperformed estimates with a $7 million take. Did people actually attend the $40 million film, or just buy tickets to make it look more successful? Who could say.
Zootopia 2 simply refuses to leave the top of the box office charts, pulling in another $5.8 million this weekend for a total domestic gross of almost $409 million.
And in fifth (or sixth, depending on how today goes) place was Shelter, the new Jason Statham film, which is neck and neck with Avatar: Fire and Ash with a $5.5 million take.
The Charli XCX starring limited release The Moment pulled in $427,940 from four screens, for $106,985 per location, a fantastic start for the A24 film.
