News comes as band prepares for first live show in more than 30 years

Warp Records are to reissue the two classic albums that Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise released through the label in the 90s.
The announcement comes as the band prepares to play its first show in more than 30 years, at London’s Fabric, ahead of more shows in Australia, Spain and the Netherlands.
The band’s decision to reform without the late Andrew Weatherall has caused some comment among fans, but they’ve defended the decision, pointing out that Weatherall himself often acted as warm up DJ for their shows rather than a band member.
“We just thought: it’s time to go back and revisit this,” says Jagz Kooner. “To let people know that it was a pivotal moment in time, not just for us, but for a lot of other people as well. These are albums that really stand the test of time. People need to hear them live. Andrew, of course, wouldn’t be with us onstage. But we like to think he’d be standing in the wings, giving us the nod.”
Meanwhile Rich Thair of Red Snapper – the Sabres’ live drummer – told us in this recent interview: “My memory of when we did that tour supporting Primal Scream, through choice Andrew was very much at the sidelines, he was much more of a producer and a guider. It was a real chance for Jagz and Gary to display their talents as producers and musicians.
“It was always going to be slightly contentious, there were always people who were going to be critical. The way I look at it is, two thirds of the band are very much alive and I think Jagz and Gary probably feel there’s unfinished business there. I think it’s going to be great.”
The new versions of Sabresonic from 1993 and Haunted Dancehall from 1994 are released on vinyl and CD on August 1 in Europe and a fortnight later in the US.
