Tom Hardy Wants To Return to This Beloved Franchise Following Exciting Cameo

For a man who’s been constantly linked with the role of James Bond, Tom Hardy has his eyes on other prizes, it seems. During a red carpet interview promoting Paramount+’s crime family drama MobLand, Hardy found himself fielding questions about a potential return to Mad Max. The suggestion floating around was that more Mad Max footage could secretly be shooting in Australia this year. Hardy, clearly amused, played it coy, joking that even if there were something to tell, he wouldn’t say it anyway.

Hardy expanded on that uncertainty when he joined the Bingeworthy TV Podcast to discuss MobLand, where he stars as a fixer for an elite London crime family. When the topic of more Mad Max films came up, Hardy sounded genuinely unsure, especially following the disappointing box office performance of Mad Max: Furiosa in 2024, which failed to crack $175 million worldwide.

“I don’t know how possible it is,” Hardy admitted when asked about returning to the franchise.

Still, he spoke fondly about the experience of making Mad Max: Fury Road and working with director George Miller, calling the famously grueling Australian shoot a turning point in his career.

“That was my first experience of anything like that, in the aspect of that amount of action. And that set me up really well for the rest of my career in that [regard] to go, ‘Okay, that’s how it’s done.’So nothing’s phased me since then because that was like basic training, but it wasn’t basic at all. That [experience] was a rocket. Getting me back [to more ‘Max’] wouldn’t take much. I’d be happy to go.”

But while Mad Max remains a question mark, there’s another franchise Hardy sounds far more confident about wanting to revisit — Star Wars. Hardy famously appeared in a cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, playing an incognito stormtrooper who briefly interacts with John Boyega’s Finn. The scene didn’t make the theatrical cut but later surfaced as a deleted moment that fans quickly latched onto. And according to Hardy, that brief taste of a galaxy far, far away only left him wanting more.

“I love Star Wars. My favorite character is Han Solo. No, I’d be well up for doing more Star Wars. That was great. I’ve always wanted to be in a Star Wars film. So playing a stormtrooper was fantastic.”

Even though his face was hidden behind a helmet, Hardy still found a way to leave his stamp on the role. His stormtrooper had a noticeable Southern accent — a deliberate choice inspired by another iconic performance.

“And I took Fitzgerald from The Revenant and put him in the stormtrooper outfit,” Hardy explained. “Yeah, I wanted to give a little bit of a nod to Alejandro.”
