There’s nothing quite like finding a killer anthology show because each season is packed with so much variety. That’s particularly true of The Twilight Zone, the seminal sci-fi show that has been scaring audiences of all ages since 1958.
When you’re ready for a good fright or just want to experience television history, you can stream this Emmy-winning genre classic on Prime Video.
A Journey Into a Wondrous Land

The premise of The Twilight Zone is simple: each episode is its own self-contained adventure featuring different dynamic characters and different fantastic stories. What the episodes have in common, though, is that each has been designed to freak you out in the weirdest and most wildly unexpected ways. Some of its most frightening tales have become the stuff of television legend, and this show went on to inspire more modern anthology scarefests such as Black Mirror.
The anthology nature of The Twilight Zone means that you get an assortment of talented actors spread across this show’s 156 episodes. Still, there are some performers you’ll see quite often, including Robert McCord (best known outside this show for the TV show Yancy Derringer) and Burgess Meredith (best known for Clash of the Titans and Rocky). The most consistent performer of them all is Rod Serling, the visionary showrunner who also serves as the show’s iconic narrator.
The Star Trek Connection

Speaking of Serling, he deserves full credit for going out of his way to push the television envelope. He loved the idea of using movies and TV shows to offer social commentary, but he kept facing restrictions that ultimately took the bite out of his more political writing. Eventually, he came to the same conclusion that Gene Roddenberry did with Star Trek: namely, that sci-fi would be a better genre to explore modern issues without running afoul of the censors.
The Twilight Zone is one of the most critically acclaimed sci-fi series of all time. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a rating of 92 percent, with critics praising the show for its ability to deliver spine-tingling chills, week after week. They also celebrated The Twilight Zone for pushing the boundaries of what a TV show could be (which is why it won the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Writing…twice!).
Get In the Zone

As for me, I’ve been captivated by The Twilight Zone since I was a child: I adored how most of the episodes had morals, allowing me to ask some big questions about humanity while I indulged in a show full of inhuman threats. Growing up, I began to appreciate how perfect The Twilight Zone was from the beginning, giving us a show that was nearly impossible to follow up on. But the later Twilight Zone movie comes close, delivering big-budget adaptations of the show’s scariest episodes.
Will you agree that The Twilight Zone remains the scariest show in TV history, or would you rather feed this series to someone on the wing… something on your wing? The only way to find out is to head over to Prime Video and check out a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. Careful, though: you may have trouble sleeping after you stream a few of this show’s scariest episodes before bedtime!
