The Pitt had a big night at the Emmys last night after it took home five awards, but that doesn’t mean the show is going to be expanding anytime soon. After The Pitt Season 1 hit HBO Max earlier this year, it didn’t take fans long to begin suggesting potential spin-off ideas. One of the biggest to pick up steam among fans is the idea of a night shift spin-off, which largely became an idea due to fans’ desire to see more from Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy).
HBO Max boss Casey Bloys recently caught up with Variety to unpack the big night for the streamer, which also included wins for The Penguin and Hacks, and he spoke about the future of The Pitt. When asked if he was ready to talk about potential spin-offs, including the long-rumored Night Shift show, Bloys was quick to shut this down: “No! Listen, when we decided to move forward with The Pitt, the idea was that we’re going to develop other shows in this model. They don’t have to be a spin-off. But that model, I think, The Pitt showed that it could work for us.”
There may not be more shows coming from The Pitt universe anytime soon, but there will be more shows like The Pitt, unconnected to Noah Wyle’s medical drama, airing on HBO Max in the future. Bloys continued, “So, we’ve been developing other types of shows: a cop show, a family show, etc. We will be developing those and trying to do it again. But as I’ve said, The Pitt is lightning in a bottle. So the idea that we’re going to do another one, that it’s going to work out, you never know. But it did prove that the model could work in streaming.”
What Do We Know About ‘The Pitt’ Season 2?
Renewing The Pitt for Season 2 was a no-brainer for HBO Max, and the streamer has already confirmed that the second season will premiere on January 8. In addition to Noah Wyle returning to his Emmy-winning role as Dr. Robbie, Patrick Ball will reprise his role as Dr. Landon in Season 2. Shawn Hatosy is also back as Dr. Jack Abbot, and he’s stepping into a larger role in Season 2, both on the screen and off. He’s confirmed to be directing an episode of The Pitt Season 2 alongside leading star Noah Wyle.
