After four seasons of jaw-dropping moments and political satire, Eric Kripke’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series, aka The Boys, will end with its upcoming Season 5. With America now under Homelander’s complete control following the Season 4 finale, the remaining members of The Boys find themselves scattered and fighting for survival. Now, cast members are predicting what fans’ reactions could be for the final chapter.
Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara and more discuss ’emotional’ final season of The Boys
With production underway and the premiere set for April 8, the cast members teased that The Boys’ final episodes will be a “tidal wave” of grief, humor, and unexpected depth. While the series is known for its over-the-top violence and satire, the cast warns that the conclusion will hit fans on a much deeper level.
When asked how viewers will react after watching the series finale, Karen Fukuhara immediately quipped, “What the f*ck?!” But the laughter quickly turned to introspection as Erin Moriarty elaborated on the complex emotions at play. “Oh, I just got chills. I think it’s going to be mixed,” Moriarty explained to Collider. “You think with The Boys it would just be like, ‘Holy f*ck,’ but I think it’s going to be emotional.”
Moriarty credited Antony Starr’s nuanced performance as Homelander for part of that emotional weight. Despite the character’s evil nature, she believes viewers have developed unexpected attachments. “I think what it’s going to show is that even the most evil characters on our show, who have been there from the beginning and are there throughout the season…there’s a little bit more emotionally invested in them than I had anticipated.”
With showrunner Eric Kripke confirming that no character is safe, the cast braces for an outpouring of grief. “There’s going to be a lot of shock, there’s going to be a lot of laughter, there’s humor,” Moriarty continued. “There’s everything that you would imagine, but the emotional gravity of it kind of caught me by surprise.”
Colby Minifie noted that while fans will undoubtedly want more. Like the expanding universe, including spinoffs, which could keep the world alive. But for The Boys Season 5, the ending is designed to leave a lasting impact.
