A couple enjoys a meal and a movie at a theater.

Patrons at IPIC Houston enjoy privacy in their own two-person pods.

Dinner and a movie: the classic American pastime for friends, families, and lovebirds since the inception of cinema. It’s the perfect way to make an entire night out of catching the latest premiere everyone’s talking about, or the best plan when you simply can’t think of anything else to do.

You have plenty of options to level up your next dinner-and-a-show date by skipping the restaurant part altogether and visiting one of Houston’s many dine-in movie theaters, where you can order off an actual menu and eat from the comfort of a recliner (one that’s no doubt way more comfortable than the one in front of your TV at home). Planning to grab cocktails before showtime? Order drinks directly to your seat instead. Some places offer two-seater premium pods, creating a bit more privacy, and even blanket service (think bottle service, but cozier) and heated chairs.

Here are our favorite dine-in movie theaters in the Houston area.

Alamo Drafthouse

Cinco Ranch

Food: Popcorn fans, rejoice. A bottomless tub of the timeless movie accompaniment is on the menu, and you can order churro or truffle parmesan flavors if you’re in the mood for a topping other than butter. Prefer a full meal over a snack? They’ve got a full bar and a wide range of burger, sandwich, salad, and pizza options. Don’t forget to make room for some warm chocolate cookies for dessert. Alamo Drafthouse also offers special monthly menus centered around different film-related themes.Perks: Regular special screenings of old favorites, cult classics, and little-known movies, which may include exclusive menu items, director or actor appearances, games, themed activities, contests, and plenty more. Alamo Drafthouse prides itself as a space for ardent cinephiles, and it really shows in its events.Seating: Reclining seats with built-in tabletops

Cinépolis

The Woodlands

Food: A wide variety of offerings, including truffle fries, quesadillas, burgers, pizzas, even a lobster roll. Plus, popcorn (of course) and sweet treats like churro doughnuts, cheesecake, and malted shakes.Perks: Discounted movie tickets on TuesdaysSeating: Reserved leather recliners

Cut! by Cinemark

Cypress

Food Served: The food here includes classics like burgers, wings, pizzas, and sandwiches, plus sweet or savory snacks like shakes and popcorn.Perks: You can pre-order meals and snacks directly from your phone. Seating: Reserved luxury recliners

River Oaks Theatre

River Oaks

Food: As part of the Culinary Khancepts portfolio, which also owns and manages Star Cinema Grill, River Oaks Theatre offers up a similar menu of Americana dine-in movie theater classics, including burgers, chicken fingers and sandwiches, fried cheese, salads, and hot dogs, along with some soon-to-be faves like tacos, crab cakes, and salmon grain bowls. And yes, there’s a full bar, too.Perks: For $20 a month, you can subscribe to Cinema Savant, a service that allows you to see one free movie per day. Keep in mind that this may not apply to select special events. Seating: Reserved plush seats, but they don’t recline. There are swinging personal tabletops built into the armrests.

Star Cinema Grill
