The Army, the Navy have announced their debut album, Fake Brave Life, out June 12 via Independent Co. The album explores the emotional toll of chasing a dream and taking risks despite having doubts.
“Pretty, Pink and Soft,” the second single following “Walls,” is about the conflict between loving and resenting someone after being disappointed. “At a certain point, even the most patient people become fed up,” the band say. “There’s only so much weaponized incompetence one can handle. Do I leave this person forever, or do I give them a second chance to make me a fool? ‘Pretty, Pink and Soft’ is the violent dance between loving and hating someone.”

After connecting at university while studying songwriting together, Sasha Goldberg and Maia Ciambriello eventually collaborated to form The Army, the Navy. Fake Brave Life initially began as a two-person project but turned into a larger studio production with help from Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, Toro y Moi), Bleachers’ Mikey Freedom Hart, along with session musicians and a string quartet.
