Apple TV has released the first teaser trailer for Star City, the upcoming spinoff of For All Mankind, and it’s flipping the lens in a really cool and intersting way.
While For All Mankind gave us the American side of the Space Race, this show plants us firmly inside the Soviet Union’s program, exploring what happens when history takes a different turn and they reach the Moon first.
The concept digs into the “other side” of the same timeline, showing how Soviet cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers navigate a pressure-cooker environment where ambition and survival go hand in hand. The official logline sets the tone perfectly: “Where reaching for space meant risking everything on Earth.”
The story takes us back to that pivotal turning point in this alternate history, when the Soviet Union becomes the first nation to land a human on the Moon.
But instead of focusing on the triumph alone, the series leans into the human cost and paranoia baked into the system. It’s described as a propulsive paranoid thriller, and that vibe definitely comes through even in the brief 30-second teaser.
The cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey, Adam Nagaitis, Alice Englert, Josef Davies, Solly McLeod, and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis.
Behind the scenes, the creative DNA remains intact. The series comes from Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore, the same team that built For All Mankind into such a fan-favorite.
This announcement lands right as For All Mankind is gearing up for its final season, which makes Star City feel like a natural evolution. Apple clearly sees more story to tell in this universe, and shifting perspectives is a smart way to expand it without repeating itself.
The idea of revisiting the Space Race through a Soviet lens opens the door for a completely different emotional and political texture. If For All Mankind explored optimism and competition, Star City looks ready to lean into tension, secrecy, and the cost of winning at all costs.
As a fan of For All Mankind, I’m excited for this show! Star City premieres on Apple TV+ starting May 29, 2026.
