Is the Spider-Verse coming to live-action? Phil Lord and Chris Miller reveal that they’ve talked to Marvel Studios about tackling Spider-Man in a whole new way.
The Spider-Verse duology (soon to be trilogy) is one of the most successful things to come out of the Spider-Man franchise. Which, given the popularity of the character, it certainly says a lot. To many, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the new watermark for not just a good superhero movie, but how to handle a character like Miles Morales.
The Spider-Verse is only set to expand this summer, with Nicolas Cage bringing his beloved detective to live-action with the upcoming Spider-Noir. And with Phil Lord and Chris Miller back in the world of live-action themselves with Project Hail Mary, fans are wondering if there’s any chance for the two of them to do their own take on Spider-Man in live-action.
Is The Spider-Verse Coming To Live-Action?
When discussing their recent film Project Hail Mary with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were asked about the possibility of helming a live-action Spider-Man film. The duo admitted that there had been talks, but their minds had been too filled with Spider-Verse to truly consider it.
“Yes. As you know, we love Spider-Man. We’re fans of the character,” Miller remarked with Lord adding, “I would say, I would long to have the headspace available for another one of those things.”
Phil Lord and Chris Miller were previously involved with bringing the Spider-Verse into live-action through the Spider-Noir and Silk shows. However, their deal with Sony Pictures reportedly fell apart due to budget conflicts with Spider-Noir, and Silk was cancelled after the Writers’ Strike. So while it’s possible the duo makes a jump to live-action, it’s likely they’ll want a LOOONG break from Spider-Man after the Spider-Verse trilogy wraps up.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is set to release on June 4, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the Spider-Verse!
