Is Norman Osborn finally set to make his MCU debut? The latest Spider-Man rumor suggests that the Green Goblin may be on his way back to the silver screen.
One point of praise fans have had for the MCU’s take on Spider-Man has been that the series has not been afraid to dip into the more obscure characters in the web-head’s rogues gallery (at least, when it comes to casual fans). This has given characters like Mysterio, Vulture, and even Shocker time to shine. Of course, the downside of this is that staples like Norman Osborn (a.k.a. the Green Goblin) have been left to the wayside.
Spider-Man’s latest outing in the MCU attempted to remedy this by featuring a Sinister Six of all his greatest foes. However, the monkeys paw certainly curled that day, as the villains were all multiversal variants played by actors from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films. While fans celebrated seeing Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin one last time, there was an air of disappointment in the fact that Norman Osborn would seemingly never be properly adapted in the MCU.
Is The MCU Getting A New Green Goblin?
However, it seems as though what was once a nail in the coffin may have been more of a test run. The latest rumor from insider DanielRPK suggests that there are plans to introduce Norman Osborn into the MCU. It’s unclear if the future Green Goblin is set to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, or if the studio plans to hold out on introducing the character until a a subsequent film in the franchise.
Perhaps the most interesting part about this equation is that Spider-Man already knows Norman Osborn turns into Green Goblin somewhere in the multiverse. The idea of meeting a pre-Goblin Serum Norman in the MCU, with Peter trying to sway him from his path, could be incredibly interesting. Especially so if Peter’s interference ends up with someone like Ned Leeds or Harry Osborn taking up the villainous mantle instead.
