SA Menswear Fashion Week, the most coveted African showcase for stalwart Menswear brands and as up-and-coming Menswear talent alike, kicked off to the backdrop of glamorous Cape Town. The runways were on fire with inspiration!
There were trends aplenty – from bold and intricate patterning – veteran print gurus Masa Mara, Ezokhetho and Imprint spring to mind – to master classes in colour application and colour-blocking… think Fred Rich, Nao Serati and Ruan Goosen. Leigh Schubert boasted exceptionally intricate patterning and inspired colour blocking.
Denim, an ever-trustworthy staple, was seen in riveting, avant-garde renditions.
King on Horses, Noa Serati and Nguni Shades literally took blue jeans to another level. The past few seasons’ trend of double and treble denim, was spotted in many places. Bleached, overdyed, recycled, fringed, patched… it seemed designers simply couldn’t get enough of the old blue faithful cloth.

Men’s skirts looked most covetable and very ‘now’. Transparent fabrics showcasing glowing skin – another trend that’s been with us for a few seasons – worked a treat, especially combined with wildly contrasting textures like leather or leopard skin.
Sumptuous ballgowns were on offer too – a luxe antidote to the streetwear and workwear.

Crafty recycling and upcycling made for a great contrast to the sleek collections, and supported SA Menswear’s thrust for pursuing green credentials in the fashion industry.

There were so many fabulous collections to choose from, and we picked out some of our favourite pieces and trends from some of the vast talent. Sit back and enjoy!
