The public beta of Serato DJ 4.0 is finally out, and, when it comes to organisation, it’s the biggest update we’ve ever had. We’ve now got some very long-awaited features for library management that bring it in line with the competition, including some crucial new tools for crate management, track filtering, metadata tagging, and smart analysis. We’ve broken down all the new features and how they can improve your workflow.
Check it all out in our video below or read on to find out more.
Smarter Crates & Track Organisation
Crates are the key way to organise your music in Serato, and now you’ve got a lot more ways to manage them. Now things should be much more manageable and intuitive, especially if you’ve got a big library to keep on top of.
Crate Search & FilteringYou can now search crate names directly and use filters to display only the crates that contain a specific track. This makes it easier to spot duplicates and clean up your organisation.
Show Crates for a TrackRight-click any track and select Show in Crates to reveal all the crates it appears in.
Favourite CratesMark your most-used crates as favourites, and pin them to the top of your crate list so you can access them faster when you’re performing or prepping.
Crate Colour CodingFor the first time, you can now apply colour tags to your crates to create a more visually navigable library. This is perfect for distinguishing genres, set types, or prep folders.
Crate Stats DisplayAt the bottom of the crate panel, you’ll now see useful stats including total crate duration, number of tracks, and total file size.
Sort Your CratesYou can now easily toggle how your crates are ordered, either alphabetically, by creation date, or manually.
Another much-needed addition to Serato DJ 4.0 is the ability to personalise and dig through your library in new ways. These are some very welcome changes that should save you a bunch of time when you’re getting tracks ready.
Emoji Ratings for Tracks and CratesNow you can replace the old star rating system with your choice of custom emojis. This can be applied to individual tracks or bulk-assigned to whole crates.
Expanded Right-Click Options on Tracks and CratesRight-click on tracks or crates to access tools like: beat grid lock, analyse files, rescan metadata, send to Prepare or Stems crates, relocate, show in Finder, or even delete entirely.
Batch Analysis by CrateYou can now analyse all tracks within a specific crate without touching the rest of your collection.
Streamlined UI LayoutLibrary panels like Files and History now open on the right-hand side, keeping your track browser fully visible while you’re searching or navigating.
Better File Handling & Streaming Integration
Dealing with music in Serato had often been a bit clunky when it came to handling your music, especially after introducing streaming. This should all be improved in the new version.
Track Analysis While Hardware is ConnectedOne of the most frustrating things about analysing your tracks in Serato has finally been fixed as you no longer need to unplug your controller to batch analyse files.
Auto-Analysis on ImportSerato will now automatically analyse any new tracks you add to your library, scanning for BPM, key, and length without you needing to trigger anything manually.
Local and Streaming Files in CratesThis was always a real pain in previous versions of Serato, as when you had streaming tracks saved, they had to be kept separate. Now, you can add both streaming and local tracks into a single crate.
Search Streaming Partners SeparatelyYou can now use tick boxes to search only your local collection, your streaming partner, or both.
