Saturday Night Live UK will be launching on Sky this March, and the 11-strong cast has just been revealed.
The cast is made up of comedians Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young. The writing team has yet to be announced.
Saturday Night Live UK, also known as SNL, is the British counterpart to the hit US show. Similarly to the American version, each weekly episode will feature a guest host and a musical guest. It will also include an opening monologue, topical sketches, and a British take on “Weekend Update” – all in front of a live studio audience.
Speaking about the news, producer James Longman said: “The UK is absolutely packed with incredible comedy talent right now and this cast represents the freshest voices we have, they’re bold, exciting and of course, incredibly funny. The chemistry between them is something special and we can’t wait to share this funny group of people with the world.”
Sky’s Executive Director of Unscripted Originals, Phil Edgar-Jones OBE added: “We all need a laugh like never before, so we’re beyond excited to bring Saturday Night Live to the UK, only 50 short years after it first launched in the U.S. The show’s long-standing legacy of discovering and nurturing outstanding comedy talent speaks for itself, and this UK version will build on that legacy with the support of Lorne Michaels (U.S. show producer), a brilliant local production team, and an exciting new generation of voices. Saturday nights are looking bright!”
SNL has been a staple of US TV since 1975, keeping fans entertained for over 50 years. Currently broadcasting on NBC, the show has launched the careers of many including Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph, Seth Myers, Pete Davidson, Bowen Yang, and Andy Samberg.
Saturday Night Live UK will be broadcast on Sky and streaming service NOW from March 21.
