As promised at launch, Rane and Serato have announced Serato DJ Pro support for the Rane System One, the motorised standalone DJ system. The integration uses the System One’s OmniSource architecture to let DJs switch between Serato DJ Pro and standalone sources without interruption – meaning you can have a track playing from USB on one deck and a Serato track on the other at the same time.
The update requires two things: Serato DJ Pro version 4.0.3, and a new Engine DJ 4.6 build exclusive to the System One. Both dropped simultaneously on yesterday. The Engine DJ update is available as an over-the-air update directly on the System One via Wi-Fi, or as a manual download from enginedj.com.
When connected to a computer running Serato DJ Pro, a Serato source icon appears on the System One’s touchscreen alongside your other sources – USB, SD card, internal drive, and streaming services. Switching between them is fast and intuitive, and the System One’s touchscreen gives you full Serato library navigation: browsing crates, sorting by BPM and key, swiping to load tracks, zooming waveforms, and adjusting key sync.
What you get with Serato on the System One
Beyond basic playback, System One users get access to Serato DJ Pro expansions including Serato Video, plus performance features like Serato Stems, Pitch Play, and Scratch Bank. When you load a Serato track to a deck, the pad modes switch automatically to give you access to these Serato-specific features. Most of theinternal effects also work with Serato as a n input, too.
Streaming services available through OmniSource include Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, Beatsource, Beatport, TIDAL, SoundCloud GO+, Dropbox, and Spotify (the latter through Serato DJ Pro itself).
First Thoughts
The System One launched as an interesting proposition – a standalone system with motorised platters – and Serato integration was an obvious gap. The best part, of course, is keeping everything working across sources simultaneously, and the fact that the unit unlocks Serato DJ Pro at no extra cost makes it easier to recommend to anyone who was already on the fence.
