Rachel Zegler had to bow out early during the latest Evita show.
On Thursday night (July 24), the 24-year-old Golden Globe-winning actress made a sudden exit mid-show due to an illness.
Rachel‘s departure was announced at intermission, according to a reporter for People who happened to be at the show.
Keep reading to find out more…After a brief hold, Rachel‘s understudy Bella Brown, who was seen earlier in the show as The Mistress, stepped in for Act 2.
Bella began the second Act with “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” one of the most famous songs from the play by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
She received a standing ovation that lasted nearly five minutes and she and the rest of the cast bowed 10 times as a result.
“Today really showed just how important swings and covers are within this industry,” Bella later wrote in an Instagram Story. “They are pillars of a show!! A proud day to be at Evita.”
“What a lucky audience getting to see both myself and MY ANGEL REG ZEG!!” she added in a separate post.
As of right now, it’s still unclear why Rachel exited the show mid-performance. It’s also unknown if she’ll be returning to the stage for the Friday, July 25 performance of Evita.
