Prince Harry is ready to put this feud to bed for good, at least with King Charles III. But will his father agree??
Now that it is looking more promising than ever that the Duke of Sussex will secure his taxpayer-funded security in the UK, he’s prepping for next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, and hoping it’ll be the perfect opportunity to come together in public with his dad for the first time in years.
Despite being a ways away, organizers for the event have already started contacting officials in competing nations, and other preparation efforts are in full swing as the event for wounded servicemen and women and veterans returns to Harry’s home country. Speaking to The Sun on Friday, a source revealed that Harry has one thing at the top of his bucket list:
“Prince Harry desperately wants Charles at Invictus — and he wants him to open the games alongside him. Harry wants it to happen both for the games, and for their relationship. It’s his dream to have his father by his side.”

And it wouldn’t be a stretch to ask Charles to take part in the opening ceremony, the source detailed:
“It is appropriate because Invictus is returning to the UK for the first time since 2014, and given Charles is Head of the Armed Forces. Invictus always invites Heads of State but Harry wants to go further with Charles involved in the opening ceremony. The games represent a cause close to both’s hearts. They appear to want a reconciliation, and the games are a perfect opportunity for them to work alongside each other. The sight of them on stage when it opens would be heart-warming and in the spirit of the occasion. People helping to plan the games are convinced it will happen and are planning for Charles to play a role in the opening ceremony.”
OMG! That would be huge!
This also still gives them plenty of time to continue working on their relationship in private before taking that stage, as they’ve begun doing in the last year. The ice is thawing, but it’s still a slow process!
There’s also a potential problem — AKA easy out for the monarch. The Invictus Games is set to start on July 10 and run until July 17, 2027, which is Queen Camilla‘s 80th birthday. The source cautioned:
“The games are planned way in advance, and there have been meetings and conference calls about the 2027 Invictus pretty much since the last ones in Vancouver finished. Planning committees are aware of Camilla’s birthday and hope Charles will be able to do the opening and attend events while still honouring commitments to his wife.”
It’s certainly possible it could happen, and the Spare author is holding out hope:
“And Harry is across every detail of what is going on with Invictus. He is buoyed with the thought of opening the games with his father, and there are hopes that other royals will attend. It would be fitting as they are in Birmingham.”
He’s tried to get his estranged family members to join him at events in the past and it backfired. Maybe if Charles attends, others will be willing to go too?
Don’t count on Prince William or Princess Catherine being there, though! Willy has shown no desire to reconcile with his younger brother, and he’s said to be super “jealous” about his success with Invictus following Megxit. Seems like a sore subject for him all around!
While reps for Charles and Harry have declined to comment on the developments, a spokesperson for Invictus told the outlet:
“The Royal Family have been longstanding supporters of the Invictus Games since its inception in 2014, with The Duke of Sussex as the Founding Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation. While it is too early to confirm who will attend in 2027 as invitations have not yet been sent out, organisers of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 will issue invitations to members of the Royal Family in due course, and we would very much welcome their presence.”
We’ll have to keep our eyes out for more on this. It’d be HUGE if Charles really stepped out with Harry!
