Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are giving their kids a hands-on lesson in kindness just in time for Thanksgiving.
Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, made a rare public appearance as the family teamed up with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA) through the Archewell Foundation. The community-run nonprofit provides more than 70,000 meals each year to food-insecure Angelenos, and the Sussexes joined the volunteer line to help package meals for Los Angeles Mercy Housing, Pico Union Project, and PATH, according to a Nov. 26 update shared on the Archewell Foundation website.
Photos from the event show Archie and Lili rolling dough alongside their parents, fully immersed in the assembly process. Meghan, 44, later shared a look at the finished baked goods on her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Show up, do good.”
Another set of images captured Harry, 41, scooping bell peppers over trays of meat and rice while Meghan stood nearby holding Lilibet’s hand. Both wore Archewell hats, and Meghan sported a matching apron, while Harry wore an OBKLA smock for the occasion.
Earlier this year, Meghan opened up about how she and Harry are instilling a sense of responsibility and community in Archie and Lili through their vegetable garden and a child-sized market stand at home in Montecito.
“We grow a lot of veggies, and part of what I want them to learn is- and gardening is really so great for children, ’cause it teaches them patience, teaches them to value and appreciate their food,” she explained in a June 17 episode of the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast. “So you start from seed, and you watch it grow, and they wait. But with that, it’s like, now do you want to sell your harvest? And do you want to share it with our community?”
She added, “I think that’s key for children to understand that, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege. You need to know that, just like manners, and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things.”
The volunteer outing comes just ahead of the family’s “low-key” Thanksgiving at home, a tradition Meghan has opened up about in the past. Her mother, Doria Ragland, lives nearby and joins them for the holiday each year, and the Sussexes often welcome friends who don’t have other plans. “I think you always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family, which is really key,” Meghan told Marie Claire in November 2024.
As Archie and Lili get older, Meghan says the holidays are becoming even more meaningful.
“Now we’re at the age where I just can’t wait to see it through their lens every year,” she shared. “We’re always making sure we have something fun to do.”
