The Hard stuff

Berlin-based musician JakoJako is the latest artist to be invited by Air Texture to curate a collection of exclusive tunes from their favourite artists.
Hardwired takes its title from the kinship between hardware-focused electronic producers, which comes ready ‘hardwired’ into the psyche, regardless of geography or nationality. Featuring contributions from Rødhåd, Acid Pauli, The Field, Neon Chambers and many more, the vinyl version comes in nine track, double vinyl form and concentrates on the more dancefloor-slanted productions. The 23-tune digital release, meanwhile, covers eveything from ambient and coldwave to industrial, as well as more esoteric takes on techno.
As JakoJako explains: “A hardwired synth has connections already soldered into the machine—it comes with certain functions without needing to patch cables externally. As a hardware producer, I feel whenever I meet someone who creates music as I do, we have this immediate connection, like a hardwired synthesizer. There’s no need for small talk – we can speak about gear.”
The vinyl closes with ‘ah’, a sensuous and gently dubby collaboration between Unrush label founder, vinyl, synth and crunchy peanut butter lover Mareena and JakoJako, and you can hear that in full right now, ahead of the album’s release later this week.
