Millie Bobby Brown became a household name after the breakout success of Stranger Things, which opened up countless opportunities for the young actor. Audiences have more or less watched her grow up onscreen, and many of us couldn’t help but notice that Brown looks noticeably different in the most recent season.
According to a growing number of fans, the reason for this is simple: they believe the actor has received Botox and possibly had plastic surgery.
She’s Very Mature For Her Age

For several years, audiences have noted that Millie Bobby Brown looks far older than her age (the actor is currently 31), something that seems even more obvious when you notice how mature she looked at the Electric State premiere. But speculation intensified in September with the release of promotional photos for Brown’s Florence By Mille cosmetic company. Some thought that her cheeks and lips both looked fuller, both of which could be caused by cosmetic surgery.
Of course, actual plastic surgeons such as Dr. Paul Blanwell have pointed out that her changing appearance could simply be due to age. Brown was 11 when Stranger Things began, and she’s 21 now, meaning she has been in the spotlight for a solid decade. That’s plenty of time for someone’s physical appearance to change (seriously, go dig out your old yearbooks), even without plastic surgery.
All Killer, Some Lip Filler?

However, that previously intense speculation about Millie Bobby Brown changing her appearance went into overdrive when the fifth season of Stranger Things dropped last month. Fans immediately noticed that her lips looked much fuller than they had, renewing speculation that she has had (at the very least) lip filler. Furthermore, her unchanging expression led to widespread speculation that Brown had gotten Botox.
Millie Bobby Brown has not directly commented on these recent rumors, though she told British Vogue last month that headlines about her physical appearance had made her cry, leading her to confront journalists about what they printed. She may eventually dignify these recent rumors about Botox and lip fillers with an official response; until then, online users continue to share screenshots, memes, and theories, all dedicated to proving the actor has had work done. While an increasing number of fans are certain Brown has changed her appearance, the actor’s supporters maintain that we are simply seeing the natural effects of age.
Bad Direction, Bad Acting, Or Bad Cosmetic Surgery?

Another possibility, of course, is that the actor was given poor direction for most of Stranger Things’ fifth season. The Botox rumors largely stem from the fact that Millie Bobby Brown seems to have only one facial expression in every episode: whether she’s having an emotional scene with Mike, arguing with Hopper, or using her psychic powers, she has a look of vague consternation. This could be caused by bad directing or bad acting. Cynical fans have noted that many of the show’s other veteran actors (including Noah Schnapp, whose Will Byers character has been suddenly promoted to series lead status) seem to have gotten worse at acting in the last decade, and Brown may very well be one of them.
Whether it’s the result of Botox, plastic surgery, bad directing, or bad acting, the simple fact is that Millie Bobbie Brown’s rigid, unchanging expression has proven to be a major distraction for fans. We’re now headed into the series finale of Stranger Things, and many fans have been wondering if Eleven will sacrifice herself to end the experimentation that created Vecna. At this point, though, I’ve got a more basic question: whether Brown’s character would look any moe emotive as a corpse than she has looked in the rest of the season!
