One Piece Officially Crowns a New Strongest Character With Its Most Powerful Devil Fruit of All Time

As the live-action series counts down the days until its big Season 2 premiere, One Piece’s manga is in the throes of its big climax of the Elbaph Arc. A three-way battle between Imu, Luffy, and Loki is all but inevitable at this point, and as if to turn the tide further against Imu, One Piece has just confirmed Loki may be far stronger than everyone thought him to be.

After setting Loki free and announcing his innocence to all of Elbaph, One Piece’s previous chapters saw Loki swoop in to save the Giant children and their parents from falling to their deaths. At the same time, One Piece also revealed Loki’s towering devil fruit transformation, and now, the big reveal of his devil fruit has made him all the more fearsome.

One Piece Crowns Loki as Its New Strongest Creature (Sorry, Kaido)

As the battle rages against St. Sommers in the Sun World, Chapter #1175 briefly checks in on Gaban and Chopper in the Underworld. A flashback from Gaban’s perspective sees Jarul finally reveal that the legendary devil fruit Loki possesses is a mythical Zoan called the Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Model: Niddhoggr.

Loki’s devil fruit is directly inspired by the Norse myth of the Nidhogg, a dragon residing at the bottom of the World Tree, Yggdrasil, which, in One Piece’s case, came to be the Jewel Tree Adam at the center of Elbaph. That said, beyond just the name, Jarul also reveals how the devil fruit works and what makes its power so frightening in Loki’s possession.

As Jarul reveals in the flashback, the Dragon-Dragon Fruit lets its user transform into the biggest dragon in the world, and the size of this dragon directly corresponds to the size of its user. Thus, Loki, being an Ancient Giant who is much bigger than regular giants, is thus able to draw out the true power of the Niddhoggr Fruit.

This explanation also confirms that Loki’s Niddhoggr form is far bigger than Kaido’s Azure Dragon, technically making Loki the strongest creature in One Piece. Granted, this title was given to Kaido largely due to his unbelievable physical endurance and near invulnerability.

Even so, Loki might just make up for the difference in pure strength and size, in addition to being the One Piece’s newest Conqueror’s Haki user.

Loki May Be One Piece’s New God of War

All that said, despite confirmation of his power, it may be too soon to count Loki in as a long-term ally just yet. For now, Loki has indeed allied with Luffy and the Straw Hats to chase out Imu and the Holy Knights, though the history between Nika and the Niddhoggr suggests a chance that the two may once again be at odds by the end of the Elbaph Arc.

In the flashback in Chapter #1175, Jarul also speaks of yet another one of Elbaph’s legends, this one being of a supposed warrior god who once clashed with Sun God Nika. This mysterious warrior god wielded a weapon known as Ragnir and also possessed the ability to transform into a dragon.

Interestingly, a dragon resembling the Niddhoggr is also featured on the Jewel Tree Adam mural that Franky came across in Chapter #1138, and this may just be the warrior god Jarul is referring to. A popular fan theory also suggests that the giant skull at Wano that formed Onigashima may also belong to this very same warrior god.

Speculation aside, however, Jarul’s description perfectly matches Loki and suggests that he may be the new warrior god, which also aligns with Loki’s desire to destroy the world. If so, at the very least, Loki may end up becoming Luffy’s newest rival when all is said and done on Elbaph.
