Nick Jonas has treated fans to the first taste of new solo album Sunday Best with the release of the introspective ‘Gut Punch’.
First premiered whilst on tour with the Jonas Brothers in Las Vegas back in November, ‘Gut Punch’ is a reflective ballad which sees Nick get vulnerable about becoming his biggest critic. “Hit me like a gut punch. I hurt my own feelings. How did I get so good at being mean to myself?” he sings, as he explores the pressure of personal expectations. The track offers delicate melodies and emotive lyrics, with Nick showcasing some of his most raw and candid work yet.
Speaking about the track, Nick said: “I tend to be hyper critical of myself, not typically about my appearance or getting older, but I was wondering, ‘Am I doing everything to be the best version of myself? Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?’ As time goes by, the stress and complications of life will weigh on you. It’s important to remember there was once a version of you who was carefree and loved the world.”

‘Gut Punch’ is the first track to be taken from Nick’s forthcoming solo album, Sunday Best, which is due for release on February 6. This marks Nick’s first solo project in almost five years, following the release of Spaceman in 2021. Fans can expect to see a different side to Nick on Sunday Best, with the artist wearing his heart on his sleeve for his most emotionally resonant work to date.
