Netflix has released a new trailer for Train Dreams, a sweeping drama that initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival to glowing reviews.

Adapted from Denis Johnson’s acclaimed novella, the story follows Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker navigating a rapidly changing America in the early 20th century.

The film stars Joel Edgerton as Robert alongside Felicity Jones, Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., Kerry Condon, and William H. Macy, with narration by Will Patton and a score by Bryce Dessner.

The teaser sets the tone beautifully, offering glimpses of what critics are calling a visual masterpiece. The film isn’t just a historical drama, it’s a human story about resilience, isolation, and the relentless march of progress.

As I said in my review: “Watching it felt like listening to the kinds of stories my grandpa used to tell me of what it was like to work in America in this same era, stories of resilience, of ordinary people witnessing extraordinary change.”

I also said: “It’s an Americana story through and through, rich with the texture of a bygone era. The film carries the same kind of warmth and nostalgia I feel when watching Seabiscuit or October Sky. It’s a comfort film, one that settles into your soul.”

This connection to the past makes Train Dreams feel like a living memory, a film that transports you to another time.

The movie was directed by Clint Bentley, the filmmaker behind Jockey and co-writer of Sing Sing. Train Dreams hits select theaters November 7 and streams on Netflix starting November 21.
