Losing a job is never fun. But, it’s even worse when you lose your job and then the people or person you worked with for an almost full decade break off with the boss and start something completely different without you involved. Seem specific? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening for 99% of the cast behind CBS’ procedural, S.W.A.T. The title was part of CBS’ cancellation block this spring, but was saved in a roundabout way by Sony, who will continue the story of Shemar Moore’s Hondo not just through another chapter but in another book altogether with the spin-off, S.W.A.T. Exiles.
In the days since the off-shoot was announced, Moore has made it abundantly clear just how stoked he is for the opportunity, while those who he used to work with have understandably been a little down in the dumps. But, thanks to the words of Sony Pictures TV president, Katherine Pope, during a conversation with Variety, there’s good reason for some of Moore’s fellow S.W.A.T. alums to perk up, as crossovers and cameos are a very real possibility for the new series.
When asked about old family members meshing in with the new project, Pope said, “For sure,” giving a clear answer as to how the offshoot will likely proceed. Building on that, she added,
“It’s a universe. There is a clear world that we’re exploring here. We’re a few weeks in. We’re still putting it all together, but for sure, I think you can expect some of your favorites to be a part of it in some way.”
