Is the script for The Batman sequel actually good? The latest report on the DC Universe reveals the first reactions to Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s script.
After literal years of waiting, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin have finally turned in the script for the upcoming sequel to The Batman. Though as anyone who remembers the old age of the DC Universe, a completed script doesn’t always mean a quality script. And with James Gunn’s insistence that the story come first, there has been some worry that Reeves will be returning to the Batcave for rewrites before the script is officially finalized.
Though by Odin’s grace, it seems that won’t be the case. The latest report about the DC Universe from Variety reveals that reactions to the sequel’s script are fairly positive. Executives at the studio are reportedly “thrilled” with the current state of Matt Reeves’ follow-up to The Batman. This is a good sign for production, with the project potentially even shooting later this year to stick to its release in the fall of 2027.
The Story Of The Batman Sequel
Currently, there’s not a lot of details available about the actual story of The Batman sequel. Though as preproduction on the script begins, it’s likely details about the story Matt Reeves has in mind for the Caped Crusader will begin to leak. However, it is also important to note that initial leaks for The Batman painted it as an ensemble movie with the Dark Knight facing a number of infamous rogues.
Speculation for The Batman sequel has mainly focused on Clayface. Although given the character is getting his solo film in the DC Universe just a year prior, it’s not likely this is the direction Matt Reeves went with for his script. Some other candidates include Two-Face, the Court of Owls, and even The Joker.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
