Matt Reeves is nearing a major milestone on The Batman Part II script, with a full draft expected in the coming weeks.
Development on Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II appears to be progressing steadily, with a promising update on the sequel’s screenplay. DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran recently confirmed that while the full script has yet to be delivered, the material submitted so far has been well received.
According to TheWrap, Reeves has been sending pages to the studio over the past several months. A complete draft of the screenplay is now expected to be submitted by Memorial Day, signaling that The Batman Part II is still on track for eventual production.
“James and I, we love Matt Reeves’ vision for The Batman Part II. And we’re looking forward to this film as much as you are,” Safran said during a DC Studios presentation. “He hasn’t yet turned in a script. But what we’ve read so far is very encouraging.”
Originally slated for an October 2025 release, The Batman Part II was delayed due to last year’s industry-wide writers’ and actors’ strikes. The sequel, like its predecessor, will continue to exist outside of the main DC Universe continuity being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
What we know about The Batman Part II
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. The date marks a full five years since the first installment hit theaters in March 2022, giving director Matt Reeves and his team ample time to continue developing their grounded take on Gotham City and its characters.
Reeves is co-writing the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, who previously contributed to the first film’s script during the development process. Tomlin is also known for his work on Project Power and Mother/Android, and has become a trusted collaborator for Reeves in fleshing out the world of Gotham.
While plot details remain under wraps, The Batman Part II is expected to bring back several key cast members. Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne, with Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright also likely to reprise their roles as Alfred Pennyworth, Oswald Cobblepot, and Jim Gordon, respectively.
